About Avanos

Avanos is Turkey's most celebrated pottery town, sitting on the north bank of the Kızılırmak River — Turkey's longest river, named for its distinctive red clay. The clay from this river has been used to make pottery here for thousands of years, and today the town is lined with artisan workshops where you can watch master potters at work and even try your hand at the wheel. Beyond pottery, Avanos offers a charming old bazaar, Ottoman bridges over the river, and is a great base for day trips to Göreme and the Zelve Open Air Museum.
