Ürgüp is the most cosmopolitan town in Cappadocia — a sophisticated blend of Ottoman stone houses, boutique cave hotels carved into the hillside, excellent restaurants and thriving local wineries. The famous Üçgüzeller fairy chimneys (Three Beauties) stand proudly on the road just outside town, and the surrounding valleys are dotted with ancient rock-cut tombs, chapels and troglodyte dwellings. Ürgüp makes an excellent base for exploring the region, with good transport links and a lively bazaar.
Ürgüp's wine harvest season (September–October) is magical. Spring and autumn are ideal. The town's restaurants and hotels are open year-round.
Ürgüp is 23km from Nevşehir and 20km from Kayseri Airport. Direct shuttle buses run from both airports. Dolmuş services connect Ürgüp to Göreme (12km), Avanos and Nevşehir throughout the day.
